Deborah Padgett Coehlo, PhD, C-PNP, PMHS, CFLE​​ is certified as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and Pediatric Mental Health Specialist with a Doctoral Degree in Family Sciences and Human Development.​Deborah com​​​​pleted her undergraduate degree in Nursing at Chico State University in 1977.

She then completed her Masters in Nursing with a specialty in parent-child nursing and a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Certification from the University of Washington in 1983. She then spent 10 years working at the Child Development Center at the University of Washington in the Genetics Clinic and Multidisciplinary Clinic.

This path led to faculty positions at Oregon Health Sciences University and Oregon State University in the field of Nursing and Human Development and Family Sciences. She completed her Doctorate degree in Human Development and Family Sciences in 1999. She has continued to teach at the undergraduate and graduate level, and has pursued research in the area of social networking, transition to out of home care for families, and child development.

Publications have included several journal articles, and co-editor for the 4th and 5th edition of Family Health Nursing (F.A. Davis, 2010/2013). Professional memberships include the National Association for Pediatric Nurses and Practitioners (NAP​​​​​NAP) and the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR). She is board certified as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and Pediatric Mental Health Specialist through the National Pediatric Nursing Certification Board.

She is also a content expert for NAPNAP publications, participating on the committee for certification in pediatric behavioral and mental health specialist, and trainer for foster parents of medically fragile children. Awards include Citizen’s Award for the Deschutes County Commission on Children an​d Families, Oregon Health Education Center Annual Award, and Faculty of the Year Award for Oregon Health Sciences School of Nursing.​

Specialty areas: Behavioral and Developmental Pediatrics, combining medical, psychological, sociological, and developmental approaches to solving complex needs of today’s children and adolescents, and their families.
